The IALP Mentoring programme aims to support SLTs working in low income countries to support people with aphasia and their families with best practice therapies and support programmes. These countries often have minimal SLT positions or even training programmes for the profession, so the access to aphasia therapy is limited
SLTs from around the world are partnered with mentors from countries with more active SLT services and research. The mentees have been from Nigeria, Ghana, Viet Nam, South Africa, Kenya, Zambia, Sri Lanka, Uganda and Tanzania. The mentors have been from the USA, Greece, Germany, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Philippines, and Brazil. The partnerships enable sharing of knowledge and resources as well as problem solving case studies in a supportive and collaborative setting. The programme is now running for its third cycle, and we look forward to the ongoing benefits of reaching more people across the globe.
