The Aphasia Therapy Finder

Aphasia therapy can reduce the level of communication disability but there is no “one size fits all” therapy approach. There is a large range of aphasia therapies with the evidence for new and more effective methods growing rapidly. Clinicians across the globe struggle to locate the details of how to implement these evidence-based methods into clinical practice. The Aphasia Therapy Finder project aimed to overcome these challenges. We created a searchable database of high-quality evidence-based aphasia therapy methods with links to training videos and therapy materials so that clinicians can rapidly put the best therapy methods into practice and people with aphasia can receive high quality, evidence-based intervention. The Aphasia Therapy Project was led by Professor Miranda Rose and was a joint project between the Collaboration of Aphasia Trialists (CATS) (www.aphasiatrials.org), The Tavistock Trust for Aphasia, and the Centre of Research Excellence in Aphasia Recovery and Rehabilitation (www.latrobe.edu.au/aphasiacre). In Phase 1 we worked with speech language therapists to collaboratively develop the user interface and prototype platform containing 4 evidence-based therapies. In Phase 2 we included 25 aphasia therapies, developed and uploaded instructional videos, and linked to therapy implementation resources. In Phase 3 we are updating the site with the latest evidence and resources, and considering newly emerging therapies for potential upload.
